Russian Folk Song Yablotchko Piano Duet Student Teacher Video

Madeleine plays a duet along with me. It’s a traditional Russian folk song called “Yablotchko” (apples). Playing duets is a great way to get students to learn to play in rhythm. It can be the most challenging part of learning to play piano. Improving rhythm skills on the keyboard can be improved by tapping the left food, counting out loud, and using a metronome. These are all useful in getting familiar with playing in tempo. Duets are a fantastic way to focus on rhythms, and a lot of fun. Students who play tentatively gain lots of confidence when joined in a duet.

H a i k u  Piano

  clashing notes fill me
the room is spinning again
i am beginner

  what is there to do

but keep playing piano
 till
the earth stops spinning

wishing i had time

to start my dream of playing

thousand mile journey

 when i discover

how to hit all the right notes

i will then know peace

 i place my hands down

twitching movements gives me pause

beauty then arises

in the morning breeze

drifting sounds slowly wash me
my neighbors chopin

the more i practice

the more i so encounter

the long road ahead

 nothing sounds as sweet

as the bell tones in my ears

from my new piano

playing recording keyboard piano lessons

From the very first day they start piano lessons, I consider all my students to be musicians. There are many ways to learn skills in musicianship. Learning to read music is a foundation to playing. A wide variety of pieces is available, in a number of music genres: popular, classical, new age, blues, jazz, folk.

Playing by ear is something that appeals to many students. Studying chords and melodies increases one’s ability to translate the sound we hear to playing the notes. In addition, blues improvisation and theory are a great addition to playing by ear. Playing duets and jamming is a blast. It’s fun making music together.

For some students, trying out arranging and composing lets you be in the world of the songwriter. Recording videos is always a great way to practice, and maybe hare what you’ve accomplished with family or friends near or far away.
